Everyone wants to age gracefully. Nobody wants to have unnecessary wrinkles, jowls, or Marionette lines. Facelift procedures rejuvenate the face so you look more youthful, vibrant, and refreshed. As we age our skin looses its elasticity and becomes stretchy and thin. In addition we loose facial volume. The tissues on our face such as fat pads, muscle, tendons, and collagen layers become smaller and thinner. Both the looser skin and deflation of facial tissues add to a more tired and severe appearance. We all age differently and a facelift procedure has to be tailored to your own face and your own individual needs to create the most natural appearance.

There are many different facelift procedures that vary in length of surgery, recovery time, and cost. The more extensive the procedures, the longer it takes to perform. This means longer recovery times and more cost.

Non-surgical facelift is performed under local anesthesia and the results are immediate. Combinations of filler material such as Radiesse, Juvederm, Restylane, or Sculptra Aesthetic are injected in areas of your face that have lost volume. This can involve the cheeks, jowls, lips, smile lines or nasolabial folds, Marrionette lines, the jawline, eyebrows, or any part of the face that has lost volume. You can combine this with Botox to improve crow’s feet, and forehead lines along with gaining an eyebrow lift. The procedure usually takes about half and hour. Recovery is fast. If bruising occurs it can easily be covered with make-up. The results of Botox usually last three to 4 month and the filler can last for up to one year. Collagen stimulating materials such as Sculptra Aesthetic last up to two years. The cost depends on the amount of material used.

“A stem cell facelift” is another type of non-surgical facelift. Fat from other parts of the body is gently harvested and processed in a sterile manner. It is then injected to all parts of the face where it is needed. Stem cells, or regenerative cells, are transferred along with the fat. The advantage of this procedure is that some of the fat cells establish their own blood supply and survive indefinitely. The results of this procedure are very long lasting. In addition it becomes more cost effective in situations where we need large amounts of material to achieve the desired result. Stem cell facelift does not get rid of excess skin, but fills out hollows, redefines facial features, and leads to a more rested and youthful appearance. Stem cell facelifts can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation.

Surgical facelifts can be divided into several categories depending on which area or areas of the face one addresses. The facelift addresses the lower face and neck. It tightens skin on the neck, along the jaw line and the lower face. Facelifts can be performed along with other procedures such as eyelid or forehead lift or cheek lifts. If you desire volume replacement this can also be combined with fat transfer or filler injections. Surgical facelifts remove extra skin. They do not get rid of brown or red spots or deep wrinkles. Brown and red spots are treated with peels or laser treatments and deep wrinkles require filler material to fill in irregularities and or laser treatments.

This category of facelift is designed for a younger patient with moderately lose skin. Incisions are made around the ears and excess skin is removed. This procedure does not address the neck. It can be performed under local or general anesthesia. Sutures are removed in one week. At that time the patient can apply make-up if there is any residual bruising left.

This procedure is best suited for a patient with excess neck skin, but minimal looseness in the lower facial area. This procedure involves incisions around the ear as well as an incision under the chin. Loose neck muscles are reinforced during this procedure and the jaw line is redefined. In addition to removing extra skin Dr. Orloff tightens the underlying fascia, muscles, and tendons to create a strong foundation that will improve and extend the effect of the facelift. This procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia. Following the surgery your head is wrapped in a big, fluffy dressing which is removed the next day. The sutures are taken out the following week. You will experience some bruising and swelling which will resolve rapidly.

This procedure is a more extensive than the procedure above and best suited for the patient with moderate loose skin, Marionette lines, and jowls. This procedure will produce the longest lasting results and will maximally address your concerns about extra skin and loose tissues. Doctor Orloff specializes at recreating a natural look instead of a pulled, wind-swept result. In this procedure he addresses the aging face in layers. He repositions the muscles and soft tissues in their original position. He tightens the underlying SMAS fascia just like you would reinforce wall framing and structure before painting. Lastly he addresses the skin layer and removes excess skin. This procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia. All the facelift surgeries are performed in our outpatient surgery center. Following our surgery you can choose to recover at home or in an after care facility. Some patients choose to go home with a nurse. When you schedule your facelift procedure we can help you decide what would be best for your recovery.

How long will my results last? Your benefit will last forever. The tightening of the underlying tissues and removal of extra skin is permanent. However, we constantly age and following the facelift procedure your face will continue to age. We cannot stop the aging process, but there are many steps we can take to age as best as we can. Excellent skin care will prolong the quality of your skin tone and texture. Sun can have a damaging effect on the skin and maintaining good sun protection will preserve your skin quality. A balanced diet, exercise and stable weight all promote healthy looking skin. All these factors will help you look your best.
